Diagramming with Sketches

A process, an organisation or an idea is often easier to understand as a diagram than as a paragraph.

Some things are hard to describe in sentences: the steps of a process, who approves what, how elements fit together. Sketches, the suite’s drawing app, produces schematics, diagrams and rough drawings, freehand or with the assistant.

  • A single reading direction, left to right or top to bottom.
  • One shape per type of element: step, decision, document.
  • Short labels, one verb for each step.
  • No more than a dozen elements. Beyond that, make two diagrams.
  1. Open the diagram in Sketches.
  2. Correct a label or move a shape directly.
  3. Check the diagram with someone who actually carries out the process.
  4. Export to an image or PDF and insert it into your document or your deck.
