Lesson 4 of 10 · 9 min

Providing knowledge and sources

Choose the documents that prevail and require sourced answers.

ObjectiveBy the end of this lesson, you will be able to build a reliable knowledge library, rid it of contradictions and require sourced answers from the assistant.

An assistant is only reliable if it relies on the right documents. Learnya has a knowledge library and a memory. Knowledge is the reference documents you give it. Memory keeps what has been learnt over the course of exchanges. For a team assistant, knowledge is what counts first.

Building the library

  • Keep the documents that prevail: policies, approved procedures, up-to-date catalogues.
  • Leave out drafts, duplicates and outdated versions.
  • Name each document with its topic and its date.
  • Appoint a person responsible for keeping each document up to date.

A smaller, accurate library is better than a large, contradictory one. If two documents contradict each other, the assistant will hesitate or choose badly. Learnya can help you spot these contradictions before going live.

Try it in LearnyaCompare the documents in this project’s knowledge library. Point out the contradictions between them, the information that is more than two years old and the frequent topics that no document covers. Try in Learnya
  1. Open “Knowledge” in the sidebar, or the project concerned.
  2. Add the reference documents you selected.
  3. In the instructions, state which ones prevail when in doubt.
  4. Ask the assistant to cite the source document in every answer.
  5. Test a question whose answer exists in no document and check that it says so.

External sources

For topics that change, the assistant can search the web or academic sources, with citations. State in the instructions when it should do so and which sources to favour. A source-checking agent can verify the references before the answer reaches you, and a challenger agent can put the conclusions to the test.
