Lesson 1 of 12 · 8 min

From an assistant that answers to an agent that acts

You understand what changes when AI no longer just answers but carries out a series of actions for you.

ObjectiveBy the end of this lesson, you will be able to rephrase a question as a task handed to an agent, with a result, an audience and sources, then follow its plan so you can stop it early.

For a long time, working with an AI meant asking a question and reading an answer. An agent goes further. It receives a task, breaks it down into steps, chooses tools and uses them one after another until it reaches the result. In Learnya, you see this plan and each tool used, at the moment it is used.

This difference changes your role. You no longer just write questions. You hand over a piece of work, you frame it, you check the result and you decide what actually goes out into the world. It is a role close to that of a manager who delegates to a capable, fast colleague who does not know your context until you give it to them.

What an agent actually does

  • It plans: it announces the steps before following them.
  • It searches: on the web, in the academic literature, in your files and in your knowledge library.
  • It delegates: it can launch agents in parallel, for example to explore a topic, check sources or challenge a conclusion.
  • It produces: a document, a Deck presentation, a Flow lesson, a spreadsheet, a draft email.
  • It asks: before any action that commits you, such as sending, buying, publishing or deleting, it waits for your approval.

A question calls for an answer. A task calls for a result. Here is the same intention phrased both ways.

What’s new in data protection in Switzerland?

More effective

Prepare a one-page note on what the revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) changes for our SME. Look for official sources, cite them, and end with three concrete actions for our HR team.

The second version describes a result, an audience and a requirement for sources, which lets the agent plan its work.

While it runs, watch the step trail. It shows which searches were launched, which pages were opened, which agent checked what. This trail is not decoration. It is your first means of control, and it lets you stop early a track that is heading in the wrong direction.
